Obituary
Professor Maj. Gen. (Retd) Abdul Hannan, Head of Department of Microbiology, University of Health Sciences and member editorial board JAMC, died on Tuesday, January 26, 2016. He was 79.
Prof Abdul Hannan served in Pakistan Army on various key positions from 1961 to 1996. Before joining UHS in 2006, he served as Professor and Head Department of Pathology at Army Medical College, Rawalpindi, as consultant microbiologist at Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad and King Fahd Military Medical Complex, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
Prof Abdul Hannan’s academic and research contributions were immense. He is credited with advancing the practice of microbiology and infectious diseases across Pakistan. Over the course of his career, spanning over 50 years, he authored more than 60 publications. He was an active member of advisory board of Journal of Ayub Medical College, Abbottabad and contributed towards the excellence of JAMC. He was an expert on Anaerobic Microbiology, HLA Tissue typing, Multidrug Resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Hospital Infection control on which he did pioneer work in Pakistan.
He will always be remembered. May Allah bless his soul and give his family the fortitude to bear this grief. (Ameen)
